What is the object of blackjack?
The objective of blackjack is to achieve a hand value which is greater than that of the dealer, but without exceeding 21.
Blackjack is a popular American casino game, now found throughout the world. It is a banking game in which the aim of the player is to achieve a hand value which is greater than that of the dealer, but without exceeding 21.
In blackjack, cards 2 through 10 are worth their face value, while aces are worth 1 or 11, depending on which is more advantageous to the player. Jacks, queens and kings are each worth 10.
Players are each dealt two cards face up. The dealer is also dealt two cards, but one of these is dealt face down. Players may then choose to either "stand" (not receive any more cards), "hit" (receive another card), "double down" (receive just one more card and then stand), "split" (if the player has two cards of the same value, they may split them into two separate hands), or "surrender" (give up half of their bet and end their participation in the hand).
If the player goes over 21 ("busts"), they automatically lose the hand. If the dealer also busts, then the player wins. Otherwise, the player and dealer compare their hand values, and the one with the higher value wins.
There are a few variations of blackjack which can be found in different casinos, but the basic rules and objective remain the same.
